Frequently Asked Questions

How do the sessions work?

Each session is 60 minutes long and tailored to your specific needs. Whether working with children, parents, or adults, I use a strengths-based approach that combines positive psychology and cognitive behavioural techniques. Where appropriate, hypnotherapy may also be used to support relaxation and self-efficacy. Sessions can take place in person or online via a secure video platform.

What happens in an initial assessment?

An initial assessment is the first step in understanding your needs and goals. We’ll discuss your concerns, explore relevant background information, and develop a personalised plan for moving forward. This session is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions and ensure that therapy feels like the right fit for you or your child.

How many sessions will I/my child need?

The number of sessions varies depending on individual needs. Some people benefit from a short-term approach (4-6 sessions), while others may require longer-term support. We will regularly review progress to ensure the sessions are meeting your needs.

Can I sit in on my child's session?

This depends on the child’s age and preference. All sessions are tailored to meet the needs and preferences of all parties involved. For younger children, parental involvement is often encouraged to reinforce strategies at home. For teenagers, sessions are usually one-to-one, but feedback and guidance is provided for parents where appropriate and to reinforce strategies at home. Part of your child's plan might involve parental sessions.

What if my child doesn't want therapy?

It’s important that children feel comfortable and are willing to engage. If your child is unsure, we can start with a gentle introduction to explore their feelings about therapy. You may also wish to book a parent support session first to discuss strategies for encouraging your child to engage.

What kind of issues do you help with?

I specialise in supporting children, teens, and adults with: ✔ Anxiety and excessive worry ✔ Phobias and fears ✔ School-related stress and attendance issues ✔ Perfectionism and low self-esteem ✔ Habit reversal (e.g., nail-biting, hair-pulling) ✔ Stress management and resilience-building

Is my child too young for therapy?

For talking therapy to be effective, your child should be able to: ✔ Understand and talk about their thoughts and feelings (at a basic level) ✔ Engage in discussions and activities that help them develop coping strategies ✔ Feel comfortable working in a one-to-one setting. The minimum recommended age for talking therapy is 10, there are more suitable therapies for younger children. If you're unsure whether therapy is suitable for your child, I recommend booking a free discovery call to discuss their needs and explore the best approach.

My child is neurodivergent - can you help?

Yes, I work with neurodivergent children and teens, including those with autism, ADHD, and other neurodiverse profiles. My approach is individualised and tailored to suit your child's unique needs, strengths, and communication style. I use a strengths-based approach alongside cognitive and behavioural strategies to support anxiety, stress, phobias, and habit reversal. Sessions can be adapted to ensure they are accessible, engaging, and comfortable for your child. If you’d like to discuss whether this would be a good fit, please book a free discovery call, and we can explore the best way forward together.

Will therapy 'cure' anxiety?

Therapy isn’t about ‘curing’ or 'fixing' emotions —it’s about learning how to manage them effectively. Anxiety is a normal human response, but when it becomes overwhelming, therapy provides practical tools to reduce its impact and build confidence in handling challenges.

What if I don't feel that therapy is helping?

Therapy is a collaborative process, and your feedback is important. If something isn’t working, we can adjust the approach to better suit your needs. If at any point you feel that therapy isn’t right for you, we can discuss alternative options.

How do I book a session?

You can book a session directly through the Book Online page or contact me if you need further information before scheduling. If you are unsure whether my services are the right fit, I recommend booking a free 15-minute discovery call before scheduling a full session. This allows us to briefly discuss your concerns and explore how I can help.

How do I pay for a session?

Payment is required at the time of booking and can be made securely online. If you have booked a pre-paid package, sessions must be used within 3 months.

What is your cancellation policy?

I require at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule a session. If you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice, the session will be charged in full or deducted from your pre-paid sessions.

What happens if I don't show up for my session?

If you do not attend a booked session without prior notice, it will be considered used and non-refundable. Where there are technical issues, you should notify as soon as possible so your session can be conducted via phone.

What is your refund policy?

Refunds are not available for individual sessions or pre-paid packages. If you need to cancel a session within the 24-hour notice period, you can reschedule it at no additional cost.

What do I need for an online session on Google Meet?

All online sessions take place on Google Meet, a secure and easy-to-use video platform. You will be sent a meeting link soon after you book your session. If you have not received this 24 hours before your session, please contact me. To join your session, you will need: ✔ A stable internet connection ✔ A computer, tablet, or smartphone with a camera and microphone ✔ A quiet, private space where you feel comfortable talking ✔ The Google Meet app (if using a mobile device) or a web browser (Chrome is recommended) Before your session, you will receive a Google Meet link via email. Simply click the link at your appointment time to join. If you have any issues connecting, please let me know in advance.

Are sessions confidential?

Yes, everything discussed in sessions is confidential, except in cases where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, in which case I have a duty of care to ensure safety. If working with children, confidentiality will be discussed on a case-by-case basis, with appropriate feedback provided to parents when necessary.
